This program is excellent! It helped me explore what the MSL role is about, and most importantly how to make my CV, and LinkedIn profile stands out and is seen by recruiters and Pharma companies. During the program, I was able to listen to numerous interviews with MSL managers which helped me apply the knowledge I was learning during the course. What I found most helpful was learning how to prepare yourself during the various stages of an interview. Before this training, like so many aspiring MSLs, I sent too many CVs that were not MSL-ready. The ‘Breaking Into The MSL Career Training Program’ is a great learning tool for anyone aspiring to be an MSL. The course is self-paced in addition to being extremely detailed, well designed, and easy to follow. Dr. Dyer’s course (Breaking Into The MSL Career Training Program) offers a comprehensive overview of the MSL role and landscape. Each session breaks down pivotal steps in the hiring process including how to craft a properly formatted CV and cover letter, how to interact with recruiters, hiring managers, and the all-important presentation interview. Additionally, there are expert panelists who offer their insights for each section. Inclusion of the monthly aspiring MSL mentor sessions also offers a wonderful chance to ask questions of experienced MSLs and MSL managers. I would highly recommend the course!

When I first started my job search, I saw an opening to be a Medical Science Liaison. My curiosity got the best of me, so I started searching for what this role was and how to apply for this job. Turns out there wasn’t a lot of information out there or there was lacking information. When I googled Medical Science Liaison, I found and purchased a book called “The Medical Science Liaison Career Guide: How to Break into Your First Role” by Dr. Samuel Dyer. I was also thrilled that he had also founded the Medical Science Liaison Society, and there was an online course that was very similar called “Breaking into the MSL Role”. I signed up for the membership and course and was very satisfied with the outline and the CV template this came with. As far as the course goes, I found it very helpful for me. I am still trying to break into an MSL entry job, but what I found the most helpful about the course was that it helped me prepare and outlined easier what I needed to do and what to expect. So starting out, when I first heard about the MSL role, I had no idea how to even begin to break into the career and came from doing numerous research and watching a lot of YouTube videos; but it was really this course that really helped me break it down from what the role specifically is to how to apply and prepare for a job interview. What was also valuable for me was watching the course and following along with Dr. Dyer’s book to help outline and highlight what was important. The course is really worth it if you want a concise, informative, and detailed way to break into the MSL role.

My only regret is not having enrolled in this course earlier in the process!
Coming from an academic research background, the MSL Society’s online course on “How to Break into the MSL Role” has provided me with a framework for how to enter the new-to-me professional space in field medical. Since I lack specific MSL experience, I found the interviews with hiring managers in the final module particularly helpful. I learned how to restructure my CV and refine my talking points for interviews, such as honing in on the transferable MSL skills that I already possess as well as the importance of demonstrating that I have a firm grasp of how the role’s function fits with the company’s business and strategic needs, values, products/assets, and future directions. The guidance provided has helped and is continuing to help me network more effectively and know what to expect during every stage of the process of breaking into my first MSL position. My only regret is not having enrolled in this course earlier in the process.
